BCS Lincolnshire AGM 2007
The AGM of the
Lincolnshire Branch of the British Computer Society was held at the EMMTEC
Centre, The University of Lincoln on 24th
May 2007.
Chair’s Report
The Lincolnshire Sub–Branch of
the BCS had its case for formal approval as a full and independent branch
approved by the Branches Management Committee this spring and became a
Branch from the 1st of May 2007. The membership of the Lincolnshire Branch
currently stands at over 400 members. The Sub-branch was established at an
inaugural meeting on the 30th May 2006 and has been supported in its
inaugural year by the Nottingham and Derby Branch. Mary Clarkson of the Leicestershire Branch
has kindly acted as Mentor throughout this period.
There is an existing committee, elected at inaugural meeting of the
Lincolnshire Sub-branch in May 2006, which has served throughout this first
year. The only change has been in
the post of Secretary; the original post holder resigned after a change of
employment and Shayne Ward has taken on this role
subsequently. All committee members
are prepared to continue serving if re-elected; and thus experience and
continuity is assured based on the fact that some committee members have
also served on various BCS committees before.
The current Treasurer has been Mike Ashford, from the Nottingham and Derby Branch. This has
allowed us to achieve a transfer of financial control in 2007-08 to our
current shadow Treasurer, Tim Bulter, who has already been working
with Mike Ashford to accomplish this
transfer.
Throughout 2006-2007, the
Sub-branch has held a number of events: professional meetings, a social
event, and an educational outing. All events have been open to the public
as well as BCS members. Below is the diary of events held in this past year. Fuller details are available on our website ( http://lincolnshire.bcs.org/)

The sub-branch successfully
applied for additional funds from the Branches Management Committee in
autumn 2006 and we were granted £1150.00 in October 2006. These additional
funds made the above programme of events possible. Throughout the year, we
have been fortunate to have the use of the University of Lincoln's EMMTEC Building as a meeting venue. In
appreciation of this, the Branch has agreed to make a donation of £100 to
the university's book fund. We also successfully applied for student prizes
to award to Computing students at the University of Lincoln, Lincoln College, and North Lindsey College; the first of these will be
awarded to students in the summer of 2007.
This first year has an
interesting journey from Sub-branch to Branch. We have established
ourselves within the wider BCS community and locally within our region. We
are looking forward to the coming year with an exciting programme of events.
In 2007-08, we are aiming especially to increase student memberships within
the branch working in co-operation with the university and colleges in the
region. It has been a pleasure for
me to serve as chair throughout this year; and I look forward to serving
again in this post in 2007-08 with the present committee.
The BCS Lincolnshire Branch aims
to serve members of the British Computer Society in the Lincolnshire area and beyond. Our aim is to
provide both professional and social activities throughout the year to BCS
members of all categories and the wider public.
On behalf of the Committee of

Professor Cornelia Boldyreff, FBCS and Chair
